The attack, carried out by a 24-member commando unit, sparked intense gunfire near the complex, and AFP reporters in the area reported hearing shots and seeing tanks deployed on the streets. According to security sources, the armed assailants tried to overrun the compound, prompting a swift and deadly response.

Government spokesman and Foreign Minister, Abderaman Koulamallah, confirmed that 19 people were killed in the exchange. Of those, 18 were attackers, while one security personnel was also killed. Additionally, six of the assailants were injured, and three members of the security forces sustained injuries, one of whom was in serious condition.
