P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened along Alimosho Road, Iyana Ipaja roundabout area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the driver hit the victim while he was performing his lawful duty with the truck. He thought he had killed him and ran to Gowon Estate into the DPO’s office, which caused serious embarrassment to the DPO.
He was arrested and detained for his conduct by jumping into the DPO’s office and for the allegedly hitting the LASTMA offficer while he was performing his lawful duty.
He was consequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
“That you, Charles Chukwunonso, at about 1840hrs at Gowon Estate Police Station, Alimosho, Lagos in the Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in an unruly manner by jumping into the DPO’s office deliberately and disrupted his interview with parties without permission thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 168(b) of the criminal law of the lagos State of Nigeris 2015.”
COUNT II: “That you, Charles Chukwunonso ‘m’age 26yrs of No 152 Abeokuta Road Iyana Ipaja, Lagos State, on 05/12/2024 at about 1950hrs along Alimosho Road by Iyana Ipaja roundabout, Lagos in the Magisterial District, being the driver in charge of one Nissan Coaster truck Reg. No. GGB 925 XC drove the vehicle on the public highway in a dangerous manner against the transport sector Reform Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2021.”
COUNT III:” That you, Charles, Emmanuel Nnamdi ‘M’ on the same time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, being the driver of same vehicle on the public highway, hit one LASTMA Officer, Johnson Mayokun ‘M’ of Abesan Housing Estate Ipaja, Lagos and caused injury to him and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 50 of RTL Laws of Lagos State Nigeria 2021.”
“That you, Charles Emmanuel Nnamdi Chukwunonso ‘M’ of same address and same date, time in the aforesaid magisterial District, absconded immediately the accident occurred at Iyana Ipaja roundabout and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 15 (1) of the RTL Laws of Lagos State Nigeria 2021.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
