This occurred around 15:00 hours on 11th February 2025, when the driver of the Wish vehicle, identified as 29-year-old Simes Hamoonga of Hibex Compound in Monze, failed to keep to his nearside lane and in the process, hit the truck, which had the right of way.
One of the deceased has been named as Abigail Chansa Chanda, aged 27, of Old Manungu Compound in Monze, who sustained fatal head injuries.
Another, yet to be identified, female infant, also of Manungu Compound in Monze, sustained fatal head injuries and died on the spot.
Confirming the development,Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, said the other two passengers in the Wish vehicle escaped unhurt.
Meanwhile, Daka stated that two passengers on board the Volvo truck sustained serious injuries and have since been identified as 27-year-old Matha Sakala from Monze, who endured a cut on the chin and lower lips, four broken front teeth and general body pains.
Another passenger on board the truck, Richard Mubunu, aged 48, of Batoka, sustained a deep cut on the forehead, with both victims currently admitted to Monze Mission Hospital for treatment.
