Former Governor of Benue State and current senator, Gabriel Suswam, expressed his concern about the rising cost of food in the country. He lamented the high prices of eggs in the state, attributing it to the economic challenges facing Nigerians. He pointed out that the increase has made it difficult for citizens to afford eggs for their households. Suswam, called on President Tinubu to address the economic crisis affecting the country.
“A crate of eggs that was less than N1,000 is N10,000 now. So, it means that me and you can’t afford to eat eggs in our houses. I left government for almost 10 years,” he said.
“The President should call a meeting not just on economics; people cannot transport themselves to their offices, people cannot afford to feed their families.”
Other notable personalities who have voiced their opinions on the current state of the country include the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, who believes the worsening economic situation may result in increasing acute hunger, hardship, poverty, income inequalities and other socio-political issues under the Tinubu administration.
Obi stated that if this continues; many citizens will suffer from mental health issues.
