CUPP National Secretary Peter Ahmeh expressed the coalition’s concerns, stating, “The concurrent absence of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima is an unacceptable dereliction of duty. In this critical time of declining economy, worsening insecurity, and a depreciating naira, their decision to leave is irresponsible and unpatriotic.”
Ahmeh highlighted that this leadership gap worsens Nigeria’s precarious situation. “With the naira hitting record lows and inflation rising, the country urgently needs strong, consistent leadership—not absenteeism,” he remarked.
He also pointed out that the absence of both leaders creates a governance vacuum that stalls vital decisions and further weakens Nigeria’s fragile economy. “The presidency’s reassurances carry little weight, as the power vacuum is evident. How can Nigeria expect international investment and support when its leaders are away?” Ahmeh questioned.
He urged for immediate action, calling for both leaders to return and address the nation’s pressing issues. Additionally, he appealed to the National Assembly to take steps to rectify the governance shortfall, stating, “Despite our dwindling faith in the National Assembly’s leadership, we urge them to ensure accountability and prevent further governance lapses.
