Chinese President, Xi Jinping, has directed the military to enhance its preparedness for war and boost its combat capabilities, signalling a heightened emphasis on strategic deterrence amid rising tensions with the West. According to ISNA, the president emphasised that troops must develop “solid combat capabilities” and protect China’s “strategic security and core interests.”

His remarks come against the backdrop of ongoing tensions with the United States over Taiwan, which China considers an inalienable part of its territory.

Beijing asserts sovereignty over the self-ruled island and maintains that Taiwan cannot engage in official diplomatic relations or join international organisations independently.

The United States, however, has been fostering ties with Taiwan’s government and supplying it with military equipment, to Beijing’s displeasure. Last month, the US State Department approved a potential arms deal worth $228 million, intended to supply spare parts to Taiwan’s military. Taiwan’s defence ministry confirmed the deal would take effect shortly.

In addition to arms sales, high-profile visits by American officials to Taiwan have further strained relations between Beijing and Washington. A US congressional delegation visited the island last year, following the controversial trip by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in 2022, which prompted strong protests from China.

Although Washington formally recognises Beijing’s sovereignty under the “One China” policy, it continues to provide military and diplomatic support to Taiwan. China has responded by imposing sanctions on American defence contractors involved in arms sales to the island, calling the actions provocative and a threat to regional stability.👉 For More READ FULL CONTENT FROM THE SOURCE ↔️
