He said an occultic group would have given him a false sense of influence and power but he gave serious thought to the “still small voice” in his heart and surrendered his life to Christ
Bishop Isong disclosed this in some extracts from his autobiography titled “Diamond from the Rough”, which was published as part of activities to mark his 60th birthday and consecration as an Archbishop.
“As a young boy, I was hungry to belong and be seen as one of the happening boys on campus, I really wanted to live my life to the fullest.
“Apparently, God saw my heart that I was not only going diabolical; that I was searching for and seeking him with an innocent mind.
“Some of my friends who had gone into those confraternities were dying unexpectedly, they would leave the lecture hall hale and hearty and the next day the news of their desire would break.
“During this period, nine students were reported dead within two weeks and I was told that it was the first time it was happening that way in the history of UNICAL.
“I was still giving a thought to which of the confraternity to join and maybe what delayed my initiation was the rumour that I would be made to eat a dead rat as part of the initiation requirements.
“I was later to discover that despite all the powers I thought I was to get if anyone with higher occultic powers wanted to kill me, he could take me out within minutes.
“So I needed a God who could protect me against those who are more powerful than me.
“All the occultic groups would have given me a false sense of influence and power but I thank God that I chose to give some serious thought to the still small voice in the darkest hour of that morning and surrendered my life to Christ”, he said.
He added that from that point, every negative thing in him died including the feelings for powers from confraternities and he no longer had the hunger for ephemeral things on campus.
Bishop Isong who is also the National Publicity Secretary of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria said one thing that is common with those who are seeking knowledge and power from confraternities is that they have an undying desire for God, but they do it the wrong way.👉 For More READ FULL CONTENT FROM THE SOURCE ↔️
