PUNCH Online reports that bandits suspected to be herders numbering over 20 had invaded the country home of former governor of the state, Senator Gabriel Suswam and launched a heavy attack leading to the death of over 15 people.

The National President of the group, Timothy Baaki regretted that the attackers killed Bobo Tordoo Suswam who was the nephew of the former governor of the state, Gabriel Suswam and many others.

The statement partly read, “A nephew to H.E. Sen. Dr. Barr. Gabriel Suswam, the former Governor of Benue State and immediate past Senator representing Benue North East, was butchered by the invaders at the gate of his house, directly opposite Corpers’ lodge.

“This unprovoked act of terror has devastated residents and neighbouring communities, forcing many to flee their homes and live in fear.”

The group called for urgent humanitarian assistance for those displaced as a result of the attack as well as called for the deployment of adequate security personnel to Anyiin, Ayilamo, neighbouring towns, and other affected regions from further assaults.

“While mourning with the victims’ families, we urge the Executive Governor of Benue State; Hyacinth Alia, H.E. Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of Nigeria, and all the heads of security agencies, to take swift and decisive action and arrest the perpetrators of this devilish act.
