The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied any involvement in the shooting incident that targeted Peter Obi and other African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftains in Benin City, Edo State, accusing the opposition party of politicising the attack. In a statement, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka described ADC’s allegations as “baseless and premature,” stating that accusing the party before investigations by security agencies shows “disregard for due process.”

Morka said the ADC had appointed itself “the accuser, investigator, prosecutor, and judge in its own cause.” He condemned all political violence but insisted the APC has “absolutely no role or responsibility” in the incident. Morka added that the APC is focused on governance and recent electoral victories, describing the ADC meeting as “fringe and inconsequential.” The party called on police to expedite investigation and bring perpetrators to justice.

Key Points:

APC’s denial aims to distance itself from violence allegations ahead of 2027.
The exchange reflects deepening political tensions between ruling and opposition parties.
APC defends its image, while ADC seeks accountability.
This signals the polarised atmosphere surrounding political violence.
