A viral video circulating online shows a tense confrontation between a civilian and an official of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) in Abuja.

The 30-second clip captures the man grabbing the officer’s vest during a heated exchange near a silver sedan with a “GTA” plate.

The situation escalated when the man was seen brandishing what appeared to be a firearm. However, no shots were fired, and it remains unclear whether the weapon was real or loaded.

The incident comes amid ongoing debates over the powers of VIO officials in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). In 2025, a Federal High Court ruling later upheld by the Court of Appeal barred VIO officers from stopping or fining motorists on FCT roads, restricting their operations to designated offices within Abuja.
