Okorocha made the appeal to Senate President Goodwill Akpabio, asking him to convey the message to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a tribute to the late Ifeanyi Ubah.
Kanu, a prominent figure in the separatist movement in the southeast, was arrested in Kenya in 2021 and extradited to Nigeria to face trial for terrorism. He has been in Nigerian custody since then, and his detention has contributed to the insecurity in the region.

“I want to say to you my brother, my Senate President, convey this one piece of information on behalf of these Igbos who are seated here that the best way to honor this great young man is the release of Nnamdi Kanu so that the Igbos can go home and organize their place,” he said.
“And I know you Senator Akpabio, that even if you dont want to do it, send this message for the sake of your wife who is our daughter, send this message and get us a result.”

“@senator_akpabio that plea from Owelle Ndi Igbo is all we ask for our dear inlaw. Let OHAMADIKE Ndi Igbo, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu come back home soon, it’s almost five years now we all have not had access to our home town, only his release can restore peace in our region. We have lost so many lives & properties we need to build back South East ASAP make una help us,” he said.
