Former Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo has openly declared that he will campaign against Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 elections, setting the stage for early political tension.

In a video circulating online, Dokubo accused Kwankwaso of trying to mislead Muslim voters and vowed to mobilise opposition against him, particularly in Kano. He expressed confidence that voters in the state would reject the former governor when the time comes.

His comments come at a time when Kwankwaso’s recent political moves—leaving the NNPP and aligning with the ADC—are already stirring conversations within opposition circles as preparations for 2027 begin to gather momentum.

While Kwankwaso has not directly responded to Dokubo’s remarks, he has been actively calling on Nigerians to get involved in the electoral process. In a recent message shared online, he urged citizens—both at home and in the diaspora—to register with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and also join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He placed particular emphasis on youth participation, encouraging them to take voter registration seriously as the country heads toward another election cycle.

With both mobilisation and counter-mobilisation already taking shape, the political landscape ahead of 2027 is beginning to heat up earlier than expected.
