Federal Government Unveils Plan to Establish Women’s Centres Nationwide

During a two-day capacity-building workshop for Women Affairs Commissioners from all 36 states, Dr. Bashir underscored the significance of these centers in preparing women for political engagement. She stated, “Women have been striving to secure their rightful place in political spaces, and these resource centers are part of our strategy to effectively train and prepare women for political roles.”

Beatrice Eyong, the UN Women’s Country Representative to Nigeria, represented by Deputy Country Representative Zephaniah Aura, highlighted UN Women’s commitment to strengthening the resilience and professional growth of Nigerian women, particularly in enhancing their leadership roles. She explained that the resource centers will serve as hubs for networking, peer-to-peer learning, access to market information, innovations in climate-smart agriculture, clean-energy cooking, and essential skills for women in politics. This year, UN Women is supporting the establishment of these centers in Ekiti, Kwara, Kaduna, and Ebonyi states.

Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, James Christoff, commended the initiative, viewing it as a testament to Nigeria’s dedication to promoting gender equality and empowering women in leadership.
