Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ndume questioned the urgency behind the bills’ progression.

“It is not that I am totally saying we should throw away the baby with the bathwater, but why the rush?” he asked.

Ndume aligned with the National Economic Council’s (NEC) earlier recommendation to withdraw the bills for further consultation, a proposal Tinubu has disregarded.

The Senator drew parallels with the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), which took years to pass despite its significance.

“The PIB was introduced when I was in the House of Representatives but wasn’t passed until years later when I was in the Senate. Why can’t we take the same deliberate approach with the tax reform bills?” Ndume said.

Expressing concerns about timing, Ndume highlighted the economic struggles facing many Nigerians. “I disagree with the timing because Nigerians are struggling to survive. It’s not about rejecting taxes; it’s about ensuring the right conditions are in place,” he argued. “Presenting these bills now feels like giving with one hand and taking with the other.”

Responding to claims that his stance undermines Tinubu’s administration, Ndume clarified his intentions.

“This is not about hurting Tinubu. I want him to succeed,” he emphasised, noting that his opposition aims to protect the president’s legacy. Ndume called for patience and a more inclusive process to ensure the reforms are well-received and ultimately beneficial.…READ THE FULL STORY FROM SOURCE : …READ THE FULL STORY FROM SOURCE
