His comment comes after the recently concluded election in Ghana, where Vice President Muhammadu Buhari conceded defeat to former President John Dramani Mahama.
Bawumia revealed on Sunday that he had called Mahama to congratulate him on his victory, as he believes it is the will of the people.
Comparing Ghana’s election to that of Nigeria, Shehu Sani bemoans the habit of presidential candidates not congratulating each other after the elections.
Taking to his social media page, Shehu Sani wrote, “Since our independence in 1960, the only presidential candidate who congratulated the winner was Goodluck Jonathan (I stand to be corrected). We no dey congratulate each other after election. Na fight continue until another election. If you decide wait for phone call Congratulation, your battery go die.”
In 2015, Goodluck Jonathan, who was the candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, conceded defeat and called Buhari to congratulate him.
It was the first time in the history of Nigeria that the incumbent lost his reelection since post-colonial rule.
Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, defeated President Goodluck Jonathan by 15,405,928 votes to 12,663,950 votes, as declared by the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega.
The victory of 72-year-old Buhari showed how he won in all but one of the six South-West states and all but two of the North’s 19 states.
His comment attracted several reactions from Nigerians.

@AGINAS: Jonathan lost the elections, and he knows it vividly. You can’t expect Atiku to congratulate Buhari when Buhari clearly lost the election in 2019 to Atiku, and you can’t expect Obi to congratulate this US-convicted drug trafficker when it is clear that he was robbed of his victory in his favor.
