Ibe, in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Monday, December 9, said Akume’s comment was wrong, and that he should not dismiss the ambitions of Nigerians due to the second-term interest in President Bola Tinubu.

Earlier, Akume, in an interview on the same platform, advised Atiku Abubakar and others from the region with presidential ambitions to set aside their aspirations in 2027.

Akume, in the interview hosted by Femi Akande, advised the former presidential candidate and other northern aspirants to be patient until 2031.

According to him, they should allow President Tinubu, a Southerner, the opportunity to potentially complete a second term.

“It seemed that Akume’s intention in that particular interview was very clear: to dismiss the aspirations of Atiku Abubakar and any other northerner, and that was very irresponsible of him,” Ibe said.

“The north has the right to present itself for election in 2027. It is wrong for SGF Akume to dismiss the ambition of the northerners.”

Ibe stated that since Nigeria’s return to democracy in May 1999, the north has ruled the country for 11 years, while by 2027, the south would have been in power for 17 years.
