In a post on his Facebook account on Sunday, Igbokwe drew attention to the ongoing misuse of the naira, noting that Nigerians are still seen throwing naira notes on the ground and walking on them during social events such as parties, burials, and naming ceremonies. He questioned whether the ban on such behavior had been lifted.

“Let me remind the authorities concerned that Nigerians are still throwing Naira notes on the ground and still walking on it at parties, burial, naming ceremonies, etc. Have we lifted the ban? So that you know,” Igbokwe wrote.

This comment comes in the wake of government efforts to discourage the abuse of the naira. In the past, several high-profile individuals have faced legal action for engaging in naira mutilation. Notably, popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, was sentenced to six months in jail for naira abuse, while socialite Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, was arraigned for similar offenses.
