In a birthday tribute to Buhari on his 82nd birthday, Shehu took aim at Obasanjo’s pattern of publicly disparaging subsequent administrations and his tendency to issue letters calling for the removal of newly elected leaders following their victories.
Shehu contrasted Obasanjo’s approach with that of Buhari, who, after handing over the reins of power on May 29, 2023, made a deliberate decision to remain distant from the nation’s capital, Abuja, in order to avoid casting a shadow over the incoming administration. According to Shehu, Buhari’s willingness to gracefully renounce power and give his successor the space to govern without interference was a trait that set him apart as a leader of extraordinary character.
“Once he handed over, President Buhari made it clear that he would stay far from the political scene, giving his successor room to settle in and stabilise without unnecessary distractions,” Shehu said. “This selflessness and commitment to ensuring a smooth transition of power is truly admirable.”
Shehu pointed out that since leaving office, Buhari has only visited Abuja twice: first, to officiate at the launch of Femi Adesina’s book Working With Buhari, and then as a guest of President Bola Tinubu during a meeting of the Council of State. These rare appearances, according to Shehu, reflect Buhari’s intention to stay out of the political spotlight and allow the new administration to take the lead without interference.BREAKING NEWS| MEET THE WOMAN WHO FINALLY OPENS UP ON Sl33PING WITH 100 MEN IN ONE DAY |SEE THE FULL V!DEO BY CLICKING THIS LINK.
