After he was denied an audience with local authorities to voice his grievances and tell his side of the story, Bouazizi doused himself with petrol and set himself on fire outside the Governor’s office. His action attracted much attention from members of the public who then made effort to find out what had transpired amid efforts to rescue him. However, he later succumbed to his injuries and died on 4 January 2011.

His act of desperation resonated deeply with Tunisians and sparked massive nationwide protests that led to the ousting of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. This uprising inspired similar movements across the Middle East and North Africa, collectively known as the Arab Spring.
As bad leadership, human rights abuses and insensitive rulers continue to oppress the masses in several countries around the world, many people are seeking ways to put an end to such regimes. The masses are beginning to take actions to resist and possibly sack heartless ruler who unleash oppression, hardship, and hopelessness on the them.
