A major political shake-up occurred in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State as over 10,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), and other political groups officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The mass defection took place on Saturday, May 13, 2025, during the formal unveiling of the ADC in Agatu.
The event, held in the Benue South Senatorial District, was led by the State Chairman of the party, Rt. Hon. Terngu Tsegba, and drew a massive crowd of supporters, decampees, and political observers.
The ceremony also marked the official introduction of Sir John Ngbede, a prominent Agatu political figure, as the new leader of the ADC in the area.
Ngbede, a former Commissioner for Water Resources in Benue State and one-time Deputy Governorship candidate, previously held top positions within the PDP before his move to the ADC.
In a show of commitment to the party’s growth, Ngbede donated a building to serve as the ADC’s new secretariat in Agatu.
Speaking at the gathering, Tsegba hailed the event as the largest ADC unveiling in Benue to date. He praised Ngbede’s grassroots mobilization efforts and credited him with steering a new political direction in Agatu.
“The ADC is here to stay. We are building a party rooted in inclusion, internal democracy, and lasting stability. With the calibre of leaders we now have in Agatu, I am confident we will sweep all elective positions in this local government,” Tsegba said.
Addressing the crowd, Ngbede boldly declared an end to the long-standing dominance of the PDP and APC in Agatu, a declaration that was met with loud applause and chants of support.
“The era of PDP and APC in Agatu is over,” he said, drawing thunderous cheers from the crowd.
The commissioning of the new party secretariat was another highlight of the day, signaling the ADC’s intention to build a strong and lasting political presence in the region.
Party leaders emphasized that the ADC would remain focused on grassroots development and community engagement.
