Ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the National Assembly, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies have stationed operatives at the National Assembly complex to ensure security and smooth operations.
Earlier reports indicated that the National Assembly had rescheduled the presentation of the 2025 budget, initially set for Tuesday, to Wednesday. This change was communicated by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who confirmed that the budget presentation would take place at the House of Representatives Chamber.
A circular issued on Monday, however, revealed another alteration, stating that the presentation would no longer occur on the rescheduled Tuesday either. The circular, addressed to National Assembly staff, confirmed the postponement but did not specify the reasons for the date change.
In preparation for the presentation, the House of Representatives management issued instructions to business operators and service providers—including banks and food vendors—advising them to remain closed for the day. Non-essential staff, visitors, and members of the National Assembly have also been instructed to stay home until after the budget presentation.
Nevertheless, essential staff, officers with accreditation tags, and a select number of journalists are being granted access to the complex.
Senate President Akpabio is expected to preside over the joint session alongside Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen.
