According to Kogbara, Obi inspired a significant number of Nigerians and built a large following in the lead-up to the 2023 elections, but his political influence has since waned.
Speaking in an interview with Arise News, Kogbara criticized Obi’s failure to provide the kind of strong opposition leadership that had initially garnered widespread support from young people, intellectuals, and other Nigerians. She noted the recent defections from the Labour Party, calling the party “a sinking ship,” and said the defections were an inevitable result of the party’s internal crisis. She added that politicians, including those within the LP, are now primarily focused on their own survival.
“Rats have always deserted sinking ships, so the Labour Party should say goodbye to those five lawmakers. They’re entitled to do what they want, if it’s within the law, which I’m not even sure it is,” Kogbara said. “But for me, the Labour Party is clearly in crisis. We had all that drama around their chairmanship and the traitor who was on the take from outside elements.”
Despite her frustrations with the party’s leadership issues, Kogbara’s sharpest criticism was aimed at Peter Obi. She expressed disbelief at how someone who had once been a galvanizing force for change had seemingly lost his momentum. “I just don’t understand how somebody who was this sparkling, inspirational figure, who created a movement almost overnight, galvanized the youths, the intellectuals, anyone with principles, has gone from top to bottom,” she said.
Kogbara compared Obi’s fall from prominence to a firework that had fizzled out, lamenting that his once dynamic leadership had turned into what she called “anodyne statements.” She criticized Obi for not using his platform to lead the opposition more forcefully, particularly in holding the government of President Bola Tinubu accountable. While she acknowledged Obi’s good deeds, such as donations to community projects, she expressed frustration with his lack of aggression in tackling the failures of the current administration.
“The government is lousy, and pretty much the only good thing I can think that President Bola Tinubu has done is keep herdsmen at bay. I’ve noticed there haven’t been any herdsmen shenanigans since Tinubu came in. So, I congratulate him for that if indeed it is his doing,” Kogbara remarked. “But there are so many things this government is doing wrong—contracts being awarded without due process, economic collapse, rampaging inflation, widespread hunger—and you never hear anything seriously punchy from Peter Obi.”V!DEO GOES VIRAL| MAN C4UGHT AND ARRESTED FOR SL33PING WITH 3 GIRLS 13-22 YEARS OLD| SEE SOME OF THE PHOTOS HERE.
Kogbara further criticized Obi for being too mild in his opposition to the government, suggesting that if he were more vocal and assertive, he could regain the support of many disappointed former Obidients. She also expanded her critique to include the entire opposition movement in Nigeria, singling out Atiku Abubakar and Nyesom Wike for failing to effectively challenge the current government.
“I blame the entire opposition, the PDP, for allowing itself to be derailed by my dear friend, Nyesom Wike. I also blame Atiku Abubakar for spending more time as a Dubai-type of big man than effectively taking on the government,” Kogbara said. “But I blame Peter Obi most of all. He was a shining star, and so many people committed themselves to him emotionally, myself included. But I’m not Obidient anymore, to be honest with you. He’s such a disappointment. I mean, there’s no aggression.”
Kogbara called for a stronger opposition leader, stating that Obi, despite his potential, is not fulfilling the role of a robust, compelling alternative to the ruling government. “He’s too mild. Yes, he’s got so much, but there’s so much he could go for, and he would get so much public support if he did,” she concluded. “We don’t want a weak opposition leader.V!DEO GOES VIRAL| MAN C4UGHT AND ARRESTED FOR SL33PING WITH 3 GIRLS 13-22 YEARS OLD| SEE SOME OF THE PHOTOS HERE.
He’s the star of the show. Atiku and the PDP should also be doing more, but really, Peter is the star opposition player and he’s not doing well enough.”…READ -THE.FULL_ARTICLE.HERE.
