This move aims to prevent the misuse of fireworks, which can often lead to security risks and criminal activities during the Yuletide period.

In a statement released by the police, the Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, reiterated the importance of the ban, stating that the loud noises produced by fireworks are frequently exploited by criminals to create panic and carry out illegal activities. He emphasized that the enforcement of the ban is essential for maintaining peace and order within the state.

“Criminally-minded individuals can take advantage of the loud sounds generated by fireworks to create fear and carry out criminal acts. Therefore, we are fully committed to ensuring the ban is strictly enforced to protect residents and preserve public order,” the statement said.

The Commissioner further urged parents and guardians to play an active role in ensuring that their children and wards refrain from using or possessing these banned items. Retailers were also warned not to display or sell fireworks, as any violation of the directive will result in legal consequences.

“Anyone caught violating this order will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” CP Abaniwonda cautioned.

In order to ensure that the ban is upheld, the Commissioner has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Commanders to maintain vigilance across their respective areas. They are tasked with closely monitoring their jurisdictions to detect and address any violations.

The Delta State Police Command has also called on residents to support the enforcement of the ban by reporting any incidents of fireworks usage or illegal sales to the nearest police station or through the command’s designated control room numbers. This collaborative effort is aimed at ensuring a peaceful and secure holiday season for all.

In closing, CP Abaniwonda expressed his gratitude to the residents of Delta State for their continued cooperation and extended his best wishes for a joyful and prosperous Christmas and New Year. “We appreciate the cooperation of the good people of Delta State and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in advance,” he concluded.WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: WHY YOU MUST NOT FAIL TO HAVE $EX BY 12PM.
