Delivering the lead judgment on Friday, Justice Ridwan Abdullahi stated that Anyanwu’s continued claim to the PDP Secretary role, after he contested and emerged as the party’s governorship candidate, was a violation of the PDP constitution. The court ruled that his appeal lacked merit and upheld the lower court’s decision.

In reaction to the judgment, Imo Ikenga Ugochinyere, the House of Representatives member for Ideato North/South, hailed the ruling as a triumph for democracy. In a statement on Friday afternoon, Ugochinyere emphasized that the decision reinforced the importance of adhering to the PDP constitution.

Ugochinyere, who also serves as the spokesman for the Opposition Lawmakers Coalition, expressed support for Okoye’s tenure as National Secretary and pledged the coalition’s commitment to ensuring his success.

“We applaud the courage of the Appeal Court in affirming the Enugu State High Court’s judgment, which acknowledged the decision of South East PDP leaders to nominate Ude Okoye as the substantive National Secretary,” Ugochinyere stated. He further noted that the vacancy in the office arose from Anyanwu’s resignation when he opted to run for governorship, as stipulated by the party’s rules.

The statement continued: “The Appeal Court has reinforced the PDP constitution, which requires any member elected to the executive committee at any level to resign by giving a 30-day notice in writing, except when running for an elective office. This decision is consistent with the principle that once a party member chooses to contest an election, their resignation is automatic.”WORST THAN CORONA VIRUS| Mysterious Virus Outbreak Leaves Women And Girls ‘Dancing’ Uncontrollably In Uganda |Tap To View The Trending Video Now.

Ugochinyere concluded by reaffirming the coalition’s full support for Okoye, stating, “We thank the Appeal Court for its decision, and the opposition lawmakers are fully behind our new National Secretary, Ude Okoye. We wholeheartedly accept this ruling and are pleased with the outcome.”Tap to read the full story here.
