The Oyo State command of the Nigerian Police Force has reportedly released six suspects arrested in connection with last Wednesday’s fatal stampede in Ibadan.

The stampede which occurred at a children’s carnival in Ibadan, Oyo State, on December 18, 2024, resulted in the loss of about 40 lives.

The six suspects released were among the eight people arrested in connection with the tragic incident held at Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan.

Shortly after the incident, the Oyo State Police Command announced in statement by the Command’s spokesperson Adewale Osifeso that eight suspects had been arrested.

They included; Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, an estranged wife of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, the school principal, Fasasi Abdullahi, Olowola Oluwa Tosin, Genesisi Christopher, Tanimowo Moruf, Anisoloja Olabode, Idowu Ibrahim and Abiola Oluwatimileyin.

However, according to Daily Post, six of the suspects were released from police custody at Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Iyaganku, Ibadan, on Monday night.

Among those released are – Olowola Oluwatosin, Genesisi Christopher, Tanimowo Moruf, Anisoloja Olabode, Idowu Ibrahim and Abiola Oluwatimileyin.
