Speaking on Tuesday, Giwa said Nigerians expected a better life when Tinubu emerged as President because he was successful before his victory in the 2023 presidential election.
He spoke during a live programme on Glow 99.1 FM in Akure, Ondo State.
According to Pastor Giwa: “With the subsidy they removed from oil, I have begged them to remember the poor in the society. Nigerians now spend between N30,000 to N40,000 to fuel their cars unlike before when the only use around N5,000 to N10,000.
“Let’s use this opportunity to beg President Tinubu to remember that Nigerians depend on petroleum to survive. Those working will turn on their generator because NEPA is not supplying adequate electricity.
“Since 1999, Tinubu is the most successful person to be President, Obasanjo was not as satisfied like Tinubu when he became President. Yar’Adua, Jonathan, and Buhari were not as comfortable as Tinubu.
“When Tinubu emerged as President, Nigerians were expecting that somebody who was comfortable before becoming President, who was successful; it shouldn’t be him that would now make them to suffer due to subsidy removal.
“I’m using the opportunity to beg Tinubu and politicians to have mercy on Nigerians because I have the belief that this country will still be fruitful.”
The cleric also cautioned politicians and philanthropists against waiting till Christmas period before distributing food palliatives to Nigerians.
He urged them to cultivate the habit of giving the poor in the society all year round and not wait till December.
Pastor Giwa said: “People should not wait till Christmas season before gifting the poor. Not all people have the gift of giving, but those who have; should not wait till Christmas season before giving.”
The clergyman also maintained that those who wait till Christmas period before gifting don’t have the spirit of giving.
He added: “We have seen some people in position like the SA to the governor or commissioners who don’t have the gift of giving, but may look at this season and say it’s a good avenue for him to give out, that person does not have the spirit of giving.
“If you have the spirit of giving and have been giving before this period, nobody will blame you if you choose not to during the Christmas period.
“But to wait till this period when you never did it from January to November, only to wait till December 20 before you start giving gifts to Christians, it’s selfish interests and not that of the community. If you have the spirit of giving you won’t wait till now b fore giving out gifts to people.
“Politicians should imbibe the habit of giving and it’s not only politicians but those in position to help. It’s not all those in political positions that are wealthy, for some, it’s their personal work that made them wealthy, others it’s God’s mercy that made them wealthy, so these sets of people should not wait till December before giving.
“Politicians should cultivate the habit of giving especially those suffering because these sets of people are more used in the society, when it comes to election, it’s these people you see more. So we should not wait till this period before giving back to the society.”
This is coming amid reports of stampedes over food distributions in Ibadan, Okija, and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Not less than 20 residents of Okija community in Anambra State lost their lives in the stampede.
