Utweets understands that the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, involved an attack by armed assailants believed to be Lakurawa bandits. The attackers targeted a farm and nearby Fulani settlements, sparking a swift response from law enforcement.

According to a statement released on Saturday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, the bandits struck Alhaji Lawal Black’s farm and surrounding Fulani settlements around 1 a.m.

“The hoodlums suspected to be Lakurawa bandits invaded Alhaji Lawal Black Farm and nearby Fulani settlements located at Natsini village, along Argungu/Kangiwa road, and rustled an unspecified number of cows,” the statement read.

Upon receiving the distress call, a Safer Highway Patrol team was deployed to the scene. The officers engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to retreat into the forest with gunshot wounds. Some of the rustled cows were successfully recovered during the operation.

Tragically, two police officers lost their lives in the line of duty during the encounter.

The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the officers. In a statement, he prayed for the souls of the deceased and extended heartfelt condolences to their families, urging them to find strength in the face of this irreparable loss.

In his efforts to assess the situation, CP Bello Sani visited the scene of the attack and later met with the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Dr. Sama’ila Muhammad Mera, CON. During the meeting, he briefed the Emir on the ongoing efforts of combined security agencies to combat banditry and ensure safety in the region.

The Kebbi State Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to fighting crime and ensuring the safety of residents.
