UTWEETS reports that in a statement released on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, the commission described the report as misleading and urged the public to disregard the misinformation.

“Our attention has been drawn to a newspaper report suggesting that the Commission is considering destroying over six million uncollected PVCs from the 2015 voter registration exercise. The report is false. At no point did the Commission contemplate such an action. The public is advised to disregard this story,” INEC stated.

The commission emphasized its commitment to preserving the uncollected PVCs, ensuring that citizens still have access to claim them.

Shift Towards Digital Solutions in Voting

As preparations for upcoming elections intensify, INEC has proposed innovative measures to address challenges surrounding voter identification and accreditation. Last month, during a quarterly consultative meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Abuja, INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu suggested introducing computer-generated voting slips as an alternative for individuals without PVCs.

According to Yakubu, the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) has significantly enhanced voter authentication and could reduce reliance on PVCs as the sole means of identification on election day.

“The Commission believes that with the introduction of BVAS, the use of PVCs as the sole method for voter accreditation should be re-evaluated. Voters who already possess PVCs can still use them, but in the future, computer-generated slips—either issued by the Commission or downloaded from its website—will suffice for accreditation,” Yakubu explained.

He argued that such measures would not only cut costs but also resolve issues related to PVC collection and prevent voter card manipulation aimed at disenfranchisement.

Call for Action on Long-Unclaimed PVCs

During the review process of the 2023 general elections, a stakeholder proposed that INEC consider retrieving PVCs issued since 2015 that remain uncollected. However, the commission has not announced any formal decision on the matter.

INEC has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing the electoral process through consultations with stakeholders, operational reviews, and leveraging technology to ensure a credible, inclusive, and efficient voting system for all Nigerians.…Tap To Read The Full Story Here.

This approach underlines INEC’s broader strategy of modernizing Nigeria’s electoral process while maintaining transparency and accessibility for every eligible voter.BREAKING NEWS! IMPEACHMENT, PRESIDENT FACES ARREST JUST BECAUSE OF THIS| SEE THE FULL VIDEO HERE AND FULL DETAILS.
