In his New Year message, Obi suggested that his family and he had been subjected to threats due to his vocal criticisms of the current government.
He questioned whether his remarks had “really crossed the line” to justify such threats. Obi specifically linked these threats to comments made by Morka during an interview on Arise TV on Sunday. In the interview, Morka was quoted as saying, “Peter Obi has crossed the line so many times and he has what’s coming to him, and whatever he gets, he should manage it.”
Morka, responding to the allegations on Tuesday, categorically denied issuing any threats and accused Obi of deliberately misinterpreting his statements. In a detailed statement, Morka clarified that he had never threatened Obi, his family, or anyone else. He stated that there was no basis for the claims, describing Obi’s accusations as malicious and a deliberate distortion of the facts. He further stated, “The allegation that I threatened Mr. Obi is a baseless lie and an intentional attempt to play the victim. Such a claim is not only false but also deeply irresponsible.” Morka condemned Obi for misrepresenting his comments, adding that Obi’s false accusations had incited online attacks and threats against both him and his family. Morka expressed his outrage at this, calling it completely unacceptable. He argued that as a public figure, Obi had a responsibility to provide accurate and truthful information to the public. As the National Spokesman for the ruling APC, Morka also emphasized that he would continue to hold Obi and other opposition figures accountable for their actions. He acknowledged that it was natural for opposition parties to challenge the government, but insisted that it should be done with respect for truth and public trust.
Morka stressed that, as a representative of the ruling party, he would stand firm in defending his reputation, the dignity of his office, and the integrity of the party, ensuring that false claims and baseless accusations did not go unchallenged.
