UTWEETS reports that the incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region as well as the complexities surrounding government-sponsored peace initiatives.

The deadly encounter occurred when Isah’s group attempted to raid a cattle camp operated by Kachalla Musa, a former bandit leader who had recently embraced a government peace initiative. The raid escalated into a fierce gunfight, leaving Dogo Isah and two of his men dead.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama provided details of the confrontation, stating,
“Dogo Isah, notorious for terrorizing Kachia and parts of Kajuru Local Government Areas, was killed along with two of his gang members during the gunfire exchange with Kachalla Musa’s group.”

Makama revealed that Musa and his faction had joined the peace initiative following discussions with stakeholders in Tsohon Gaya village, Chikun Local Government Area. The program, designed to encourage bandits to surrender their arms and cease hostilities, had been extended to Dogo Isah, but he rejected the offer and continued his criminal activities.

Dogo Isah had built a reputation as a significant security threat in Kaduna State. His group was responsible for numerous violent crimes, including:

  • The killing of members of the 305 Artillery Demo Regiment in Makaranta Forest, Kagarko Local Government Area, in 2022.
  • The murder of an officer from the defunct Sect 4 OPWP near Gadan Mallam village along the Abuja-Kaduna road.
  • The January 5, 2025, attack on Nigerian Navy personnel at a checkpoint in Kujama, resulting in the deaths of two officers and the theft of their AK-47 rifles.

Isah’s persistent refusal to engage in peace efforts exacerbated insecurity in the Kachia and Kajuru areas, particularly through activities such as cattle rustling, violent assaults, and attacks on security forces.

Dogo Isah’s death is being viewed as a significant victory for security forces and peace efforts in Kaduna State. However, it also underscores the dangers faced by those transitioning from criminality under peace initiatives, as seen in Kachalla Musa’s defense of his camp.TOP NEWS TODAY!
