Azuta-Mbata, a former senator who represented Rivers East in the National Assembly from 1999 to 2007, was elected during a meeting held in Enugu on Friday.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended the successful leadership transition within Ohanaeze Ndigbo and urged the new leadership to build on the principles established by their predecessors.

On one side, Senator John Azuta-Mbata was declared the 13th President-General during the election in Enugu. On the other, Dim Uche Nnam Okwukwu, a prominent lawyer and activist, was also announced as President-General during a parallel convention held in Port Harcourt.
According to reports by the Daily Post, the Port Harcourt election was organized by the Progressive Movement in Igboland, with returning officer Achi Achi stating that Okwukwu was elected unopposed after a two-day process spanning Thursday and Friday.
