UTWEETS reports that on Friday, Senator John Azuta-Mbata, a former senator who represented Rivers East from 1999 to 2007, was elected as the 13th President-General during a meeting in Enugu. Azuta-Mbata succeeds Fidelis Chukwu, whose tenure had come to an end.
The election of Azuta-Mbata, a native of Rivers State in South-South Nigeria, represents a significant milestone, reflecting the inclusivity of Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s leadership.
Dim Uche Nnam Okwukwu Declared in Port Harcourt
Meanwhile, in Port Harcourt, Dim Uche Nnam Okwukwu, a prominent lawyer and activist, was also declared President-General during a parallel convention held by another faction of the organization.
The returning officer for the Port Harcourt election, Achi Achi, revealed that Okwukwu was elected unopposed following a two-day process led by the Progressive Movement in Igboland, which took place from Thursday to Friday.
The General Assembly, which oversaw Okwukwu’s election, praised his dedication to defending Igbo interests and his commitment to upholding the constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
