Yusuf Buhari, the 2023 vice presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has resigned from the party.
Buhari resigned from the SDP alongside the Kano State governorship candidate for the party, Bala Gwagwarawa and 56 other chieftains.
The party members announced their resignation from the SDP at an event in Abuja to mark a significant shift in the nation’s political landscape.
Among the defectors from the SDP include the Kano State Working Committee, 38 local government chairmen and secretaries, 13 state assembly and six House of Representatives candidates.
Receiving the defectors to the APC, Jibrin Barau, the Deputy Senate President said, with the new members, SDP’s plan to defeat the ruling party in the 2027 election has already failed.

He also stated that more members of the SDP are ready to join the ruling party and would be received in due time.
Also speaking, the national chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje said he was welcoming the new APC members from “darkness into light”.
In his address, former governor Kabiru Gaya said, “The SDP is dead. Its vice-presidential candidate is here, the Kano candidate is here, all key stakeholders are now with APC.
