The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied arresting the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, after he responded to the agency’s invitation following numerous calls.

According to the commission, the former governor is still wanted for alleged N80.2billion money laundering charges.

The agency’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, released a statement on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in Abuja confirming this.

Reports indicated that the former governor went to the EFCC headquarters with high-profile individuals after receiving multiple invitations.

A statement from Ohiare Michael, Director of Yahaya Bello Media Office, expressed hope that the Commission would act professionally and respect Bello’s rights as a Nigerian citizen.

Contrary to media reports, the EFCC clarifies that former Governor Yahaya Bello is not in their custody and remains wanted.

The statement said: “It is our hope that the Commission will be as professional as necessary and respect his fundamental rights as a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
