How dare you! – Olumide Akpata fires APC for proposing Oshiomhole represents Okpebholo at debate

Olumide Akpata, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the governorship election in Edo State has called out the All Progressives Congress (APC) for daring to suggest former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole should represent the candidate of the party, Monday Okpebholo in the scheduled debate ahead of the Saturday, September 21 polls....For More READ THE FULL STORY▶▶

Speaking after the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Monday Okpebholo of All Progressives Congress (APC) to the debate stage, Olumide questioned why the party would consider such a proposal.

Taking a swipe at the party, he wondered why the party selected a candidate who could speak after its governorship primaries.

The debate was organized by the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in conjunction with the Nigeria Elections Debate Group (NEDG) and the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON).

In a video that has gone viral on X, he said: “This nonsense must stop. The APC even had the temerity to suggest that Dr Oshiomhole should go and stand in for the candidate they by themselves selected. We didn’t send them any message, we were not part of it. They held primaries and a candidate emerged, now you want to speak on his behalf. For them to have the guts to even suggest that he will stand in as a surrogate to speak on behalf of the one who can not speak. No be juju be that?”

Saturday’s election will rekindle the rivalry between Adams Oshiomhole and Godwin Obaseki which began in 2019, when 14 elected state lawmakers loyal to Oshiomhole, were prevented from being sworn in as members of the House of Assembly, a situation orchestrated by Obaseki. To get back at Obaseki, Oshiomhole, then as National Chairman of APC, had denied Obaseki APC’s second term governorship ticket, an issue that would later cost him his job.For More READ THE FULL STORY▶▶
