Former Everton striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, has questioned Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle over his decision to include Tanzanian-based goalkeeper Amas Obasogie in his squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and playoffs.

Recall that Chelle handed Obasogie eight call-ups, but the Singida SC goalkeeper is yet to make his senior debut.

Obasogie didn’t featured for the Super Eagles under Chelle during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and playoffs.

Speaking on the Home Turf podcast,
Yakubu said: “Historically, the coaches put in one or two home-based players.

“You [Chelle] brought in a goalkeeper from Tanzania, Amas Obasogie. we’ve keepers here. Did you watch him in goal before?

“He has not watched him. Why not bring one keeper here to give him experience?”.

Obasogie is down the pecking order in Chelle’s choice of goalkeepers for the Super Eagles.
