The insecurity in Nigeria is causing widespread uncertainty for both students and government authorities.

As armed attacks on schools intensify across the northern region, several state governors have taken the difficult decision to shut down schools in order to protect children from the growing wave of kidnappings and violence.

The closures, which span multiple states, reflect the deepening fear and instability that now threaten the country’s education system.
States That Have Ordered School Closures

In response to the surge in kidnappings, several states have closed schools or ordered boarding students to return home:
Kebbi State

The state government ordered the closure of all public and private secondary schools as well as tertiary institutions, except the College of Nursing Sciences in Birnin Kebbi.
Affected tertiary institutions include:

Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari
Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero
College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega
Adamu Augie College of Education, Argungu
School of Remedial Studies, Yauri

The decision followed recent attacks within the state.
Katsina State

The Katsina State Government directed all public primary and secondary schools to shut down.
Commissioner Yusuf Suleman Jibia said the order applies to all boarding and day schools.
He described the closure as a precautionary measure amid rising insecurity across northern Nigeria.
Yobe State

Yobe ordered the closure of all boarding secondary schools in the state due to growing security threats.
Kwara State

The Kwara State Government ordered the closure of schools in four local government areas: Isin, Irepodun, Ifelodun and Ekiti.
According to the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the directive was issued after intelligence reports indicated new security concerns in Kwara South.
Niger State

Governor Umaru Bago ordered the closure of all public and private primary and secondary schools, including missionary and Islamic institutions, as well as Federal Government Colleges such as FGC Minna.
Tertiary institutions remain open except those in highly vulnerable areas.
Taraba State

The government directed all public and private secondary schools with boarding facilities to immediately deboard their students.
The Commissioner for Information said the decision followed a security review that identified boarding schools as high-risk locations.
Bauchi State

Bauchi State announced the closure of all primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, public, private, and federal, due to rising insecurity affecting students and teachers.
