Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested 22 individuals, including a notorious logistics supplier, for allegedly transporting large quantities of smoked fish intended to fund terrorist activities in the North-East.
The arrests were made on Wednesday at about 3:30 p.m. by soldiers of the 112 Task Force Battalion, under the 24 Task Force Brigade, at Checkpoint 2 in Mafa Local Government Area.
The main suspect, 40-year-old Ibrahim Bukar, was intercepted alongside 21 accomplices in two Isuzu trucks loaded with 59 cartons and 28 sacks of smoked fish.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that preliminary interrogation revealed the consignment was handed over to the suspects by terrorists in Laje village.
Bukar reportedly confessed to repeatedly supplying various items to insurgents and was positively identified by repentant fighters as a former supplier operating from within terrorist enclaves.
All 22 suspects and the seized consignment have been transferred to a military facility for further investigation and necessary action.
