Bandits on Wednesday, reportedly invaded Kurmaci community in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, abducting many people.
This came a day after 24 schoolgirls were rescued from the kidnappers’ den by the Nigerian security operatives.
The bandits, numbering over 30, were said to have invaded the community on Wednesday night while residents were asleep.
During the attack, an unspecified number of people were abducted, while many others sustained injuries.
A resident who spoke to Daily Trust, Aliyu Dan Galadima, said the latest incident marked the third attack on the community within one month.
“We have been attacked repeatedly by bandits. Some of our people were killed, while those abducted are yet to be released,” he said.
He added that days before the incident, an unspecified number of people were abducted at Gandun Wasagu, another community in the local government area.
“This is one of the many attacks we have witnessed here. It is unfortunate that this area has become a major target for bandits. We call on the government to station security operatives in the area so our people can go about their daily activities in peace,” he said.
When contacted, the police spokesperson in Kebbi, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said he was not aware of the incident.
He said he would reach out to the DPO in the area to verify what happened, but had yet to respond as of the time this report was filed.
