Born in Greater London to Nigerian parents, Lookman opted to represent Nigeria at the international level despite representing England at the youth level.
The 27-year-old earned his first Super Eagles call-up in February 2022 and made his debut against Ghana in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in March of the same year.
Lookman went on to represent Nigeria at the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where he scored three goals to help Nigeria reach the final.
The former Leicester City loanee was named in the Team of the Tournament after an impressive performance in Ivory Coast.
Lookman believes his decision to represent Nigeria has been fruitful so far.
“It was massive for me because that was really a big turning point in my career. Ever since I’ve put on the Super Eagles jersey, it has been fruitful,” he told Sporty TV.
