According to Ndidi Mbah, the spokesperson for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the incident occurred at approximately 11:43 pm on Wednesday, 18th December 2024. The vandalism led to the disruption of power supply from the line to the national grid.

TCN’s patrol team, dispatched to investigate the cause of the outage, discovered that vandals had stolen part of the conductor between towers T216 and T218. Mbah explained that the maintenance crew had been immediately mobilized to replace the stolen components and restore power supply.

“The TCN lines maintenance crew has mobilized to the site and is working assiduously to replace the vandalized 330kV power conductor. Restoration of bulk power supply through the affected line is expected soon,” Mbah said, although she did not provide a specific timeline for full restoration.

The outage has affected several parts of Abuja, including key areas such as the CBN Headquarters, Ecumenical Centre, Bank of Industry, New Chelsea Hotel, Army War College, Reiz Continental Hotel, and NBS, among others. Other affected locations include Gidan Isah, Area 10, Katsina Ala, Kila Close, Rima Street, Olufemi and Laih Street, and several others in the vicinity.

The Shiroro-Katampe Transmission Line is a critical power supply route for Abuja and surrounding areas, and this incident marks the latest in a series of attacks on critical power infrastructure. The Shiroro-Kaduna line had also been vandalized earlier in 2024, on March 10th, marking the fifth such incident between February and March of the same year.IS THE BOY RIGHT FOR DOING THIS?
