In light of the ongoing marital saga between Senator Ned Nwoko and actress Regina Daniels, a Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. John Uluoma, has urged intending couples not to get married because they are in love. Rather, he said, they should love whoever they choose to marry for whatever reason.
He was responding to news reports that the actress, who got married to the Senator when she was 18 and he was in his 70s, denied marrying him because of his money.
According to him, if Regina didn’t marry Ned for his money and if she didn’t get loads of it for the length of time they stayed together, then she must really be high on something.
“There is nothing wrong with marrying someone for their wealth, health, beauty, physique, Intelligence, character, status, fertility and any other reason. Not committing to loving the person you married all your life is where the problem comes.
“If you marry a man because of his wealth, you must now love him beyond his wealth till death. If a man marries a girl because of her beauty or any other reason, he must love her beyond that beauty till death,” the cleric admonished.
He further pointed out that people tend to forget that love is not emotional; it is intentional. According to him, love is all about forgiveness, tolerance, kindness, gentleness, acceptance of fault, overlooking of offences, mercy, mutual selflessness and everything else you achieve with willpower and effort.
