She recounted meeting one of the scammers on TikTok in 2020. She had spent ten months in an online relationship with the man, who repeatedly demanded money. Eventually, the woman grew suspicious and ended the relationship after he mistakenly called her from a Nigerian phone number. After the breakup, the scammer revealed his true identity and shared that he was about to marry his Nigerian girlfriend. The woman, despite her disheartening experience, wished them well.

“This man was always asking for money. When I finally ended it, he confessed that he was about to marry someone else,” she said. “I wish him and his fiancée the best, and I pray for a long and blessed life for them.”

Her second experience was with another Nigerian scammer, a young man who initially deceived her with a false identity. After a year of communication, he confessed that he had used the scam money to pay for his mother’s hospital bills. Although she was still deceived, she found solace in knowing that the money had been used for a good cause.

“This one didn’t hurt me as much because I know my money helped save his mother’s life,” she said. “I’m over it now, but the first one really stung, especially when I saw videos of him flaunting money with other women.”

Despite her losses, the woman reiterated her admiration for Nigerian men and expressed hope that her financial struggles would eventually end. “I still have love for Nigerian men. They’re the sexiest and most handsome. I just pray this doesn’t happen to me again,” she stated.

The woman also shared her concern for both Nigerians and Americans struggling financially, urging caution and safety in online relationships.
