The CESPS report, which collated crime incidents across the country, reveals that the Southeast recorded 6.2 million crime incidents, the lowest across the six geopolitical zones. In contrast, the North West reported the highest with 14.4 million incidents.
The CESPS data showed the following breakdown across the zones:
- Southeast: 6.2 million
- Southwest: 6.9 million
- South-South: 7.7 million
- North East: 7.9 million
- North Central: 8.8 million
- North West: 14.4 million
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communications to President Bola Tinubu, commented on the report, highlighting that the government’s efforts in addressing security challenges nationwide have contributed to the reduction in crime rates in some regions.
Christian Aburime, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra, noted that the survey reflects Soludo’s commitment to ensuring the safety of the state. He emphasized the administration’s continuous support for law enforcement agencies, adequate funding, and the implementation of the state’s new security network, which aims to bolster the fight against crime.
In a statement, Aburime explained that Governor Soludo’s comprehensive security initiative, code-named “Operation UDO GA-ACHI” (meaning “Operation Peace Shall Reign”), will launch next year with 163 vehicles to support security operations. The initiative is part of broader efforts to confront criminal activity in the state, which has seen a significant reduction in insecurity through cooperation with security agencies.
