In a statement released on Wednesday night in Abuja, Ganduje described Obi’s claims as a calculated attempt to manipulate public sentiment and gain sympathy.
“The claim is a malicious lie aimed at seeking attention and playing the victim for emotional blackmail,” Ganduje stated.
Peter Obi had alleged via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account that Felix Morka, APC National Publicity Secretary, made threatening remarks about him during an Arise TV interview on January 4, 2025. Obi claimed these comments posed a direct threat to his life and that of his family.
Responding to the accusations, Ganduje clarified that Morka’s remarks were misrepresented and did not include any threats. He argued that Obi’s statement amounted to libel against Morka and incited Obi’s online supporters to issue death threats against Morka and his family.
“At no point did Morka threaten Obi or his family,” Ganduje stated. “By falsely claiming that Morka threatened his life, Mr. Obi has libelled Morka in the extreme and incited his online supporters to issue death threats against Morka and his family.”
Ganduje emphasized the importance of truthfulness from public figures, warning that spreading misinformation undermines public trust. He noted that Morka’s comments were directed at countering narratives like “prophets of doom” and “voodoo economics” and were part of his role as the APC’s National Publicity Secretary.
“Morka was simply discharging his duties, holding opposition actors accountable for their statements, as is expected in a democratic setting,” Ganduje explained.
Ganduje criticized Obi for allegedly using misinformation as a tool and urged him to accept criticism as part of the democratic process. He reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to free speech and its responsibility to counter what he described as baseless allegations.
“Does Mr. Obi expect the APC to fold its arms and allow the opposition to propagate falsehoods without any response?” Ganduje asked.TOP SECRET REVEALED!
