The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) member and former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad responded to the court’s ruling directing Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to pay ₦3 billion to the Masallacin Eid Shop Owners and Traders Association in compensation for the illegal demolition of their properties.
In his reaction, Bashir Ahmad underscored the prevailing agreement that Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State committed a substantial error in the unlawful demolition of those properties. Ahmad highlighted that the repercussions of this mistake are now resulting in a financial burden in the billions of Naira for the people of Kano State.
Bashir Ahmad disclosed this information in a post on his official social media handle in response to the mentioned report.
He wrote: “Read the news that the Kano State Government has agreed to pay N30 billion as compensation to the Masallacin Eid Shop Owners and Traders Association for the unlawful demolition of their property. Everyone should now agree that Gov. Abba got it all wrong when he decided to unlawfully demolish those properties. And now his mistake is costing Kano’s taxpayers a whopping N30 billion. Never again!”
It was reported that the Kano State Government has purportedly reached an agreement to compensate the Incorporated Trustees of Masallacin Eid Shop Owners and Traders Association with N3 billion for the unauthorized demolition of their properties. The alleged agreement was achieved through a terms-of-settlement application dated December 12, filed on December 13 by legal representatives of both parties before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
