CHICKENS.The palace of Ataoja of Osogbo on Thursday denied involvement in the appointment of Mr. Muniru Raji as the Asiwaju Musulumi of Osogboland. A letter appointing Raji, who currently serves as the Special Adviser on Political Affairs to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, a copy of which was obtained on Thursday, was signed by the Chief Imam of Osogbo, Shiekh Musa Animashaun, and the Secretary, Installation Committee, Imam Abdulsalam Akinwumi. ...Tap To Read The Full Story Here | ..Tap To Read The Full Story Here...
But in reaction, the Central Advisory Committee for the Osogbo Central Mosque expressed opposition to Raji’s appointment, insisting that it was done in contravention of Islamic ideology, norms and principles.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the leader of the committee, Alhaji Sulaimon Ajala, said the appointee’s current political office disqualified him from being appointed to a religious office at the same time.
“We, Muslims across Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, were shocked to the marrow on 26th November, 024 following a purported appointment of one Alhaji Muniru Adebayo Raji as the Asiwaju Musulumi of Osogboland by the Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheikh Musa Animasahun.
“This unilateral decision of the Chief Imam is not only disappointing to the whole Muslim community but also very unwholesome. Thus, it is best considered as an attempt to create avoidable religious crises in an otherwise peaceful Osogbo Muslim community.
“In appointing leaders in Islam, knowledge, impact, character, manner and pedigree of people are among the very important factors to be considered. Thus, the alleged appointment of Alhaji Muniru Adebayo Raji as the Asiwaju Musulumi of Osogboland is not only unacceptable but also very much demeaning to the collective religious sensibilities of the Muslim Ummah,” Akala said.
Also speaking on the development at a press conference organised by the committee, ex-Osun Field Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Mr. Amitolu Shittu, urged “the palace not to get involved in the matters around the appointment as it was done against the wishes of Muslims in Osogbo.”
But when contacted for reaction, Raji said the committee was acting the script of someone interested in the title given to him.
“The appointment for the religious title in Osogboland is within the authority of the Chief Imam.
“I know that before our Chief Imam will appoint anyone, he must have consulted very well. In the delegation that brought my appointment letter from the Chief Imam, I saw a member of the Advisory Committee for the mosque there. What the committee said was put in its mouth by someone eyeing this title given to me.”
However, while clearing the air on the subtle dig aimed at the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, the secretary to the monarch, Mr Bello Oyewale, in an exclusive chat with The PUNCH on Thursday, said all inquiries on the matter should be directed to the Chief of Imam Osogbo, noting that the royal father played no role in the appointment.
“That title does not fall under the direct purview of Ataoja of Osogbo. It is not a chieftaincy title for the entire town. It is a title for the Muslims only. Chief Imam is the one in charge of such issues. No one should drag the palace into it. We are not involved,” Oyewale said. Repeated calls to Shiekh Animashaun to hear his own side of the disagreement rang out as of the time of filing this report.…READ THE FULL STORY FROM SOURCE : …READ THE FULL STORY FROM SOURCE
