Mahama will return to the Jubilee House as the next president after losing the polls in 2016 to incumbent President Nana Addo Akuffo-Addo.

Atiku, in a post on social media, said he tried to congratulate Mahama personally before he went to his church service. He, however, congratulated the former Vice President on his “landslide victory.”

“Your Excellency, Mr. President-elect John Mahama, @officialjdmahama. My warmest congratulations on your victory. I was told you were on your way to church and thought I could catch up with you before you entered the church for the Sunday service. Earlier, Dele Momodu, an ally of John Mahama, applauded Ghanaians for their “uncommon zeal, tenacity, determination, and patriotism” in the polls.

He noted that despite the skirmishes and deaths that occurred during the process, Ghana was able to maintain its respected democratic processes.

“Despite some skirmishes and avoidable deaths yesterday, the Republic of GHANA has once again demonstrated her capacity to sustain its Democracy against all odds. While the process is yet to be formally concluded, or conceded, no Ghanaian is left in doubt about the unprecedented winds and waves of CHANGE. GHANAIANS must be commended for their uncommon zeal, tenacity, courage, determination, and PATRIOTISM… This beautiful African country deserves our biggest congratulations,” Dele Momodu wrote.
