The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has highlighted the Igbo people’s historical existence in Nigeria in a video that was uploaded by Sahara TV. He claimed that the Igbos had been residing in the area that now makes up Nigeria for a very long time, even before Christ was born and before Nigeria was merged in 1914.

Chief Iwuanyanwu mentioned that he is setting up a museum of Igbo history to showcase the long-standing existence of the Igbo people in the area. He asserted that Igbo activity in Lagos and various parts of Nigeria predates the 1914 amalgamation by Frederick Lugard. The amalgamation brought together different regions into one country called Nigeria. Chief Iwuanyanwu highlighted the historical depth of the Igbo presence in Nigeria, emphasising that the Igbo people have a significant and longstanding connection to the country that predates its formal amalgamation.

According to him, “I want you to know that Igbos have existed where we live today in Nigeria even before Christmas was born. I am setting up a museum of Igbo history, and when the results come out, you’ll see that Igbos are perhaps, where they live today; we have been very old there, so we’re old. In Nigeria, Igbo activity in Lagos and in many parts of Nigeria predates the 1914 amalgamation by Frederick Lugard, so in effect, Igbos have been part of this territory called Nigeria for a very long time. In 1914, Nigeria was amalgamated, and we now became one country. That gave Nigeria, the Igbos, the determination to move round, to help in building a country, Nigeria.”..PROCEED.FULL.READING
