The TikTok account with the username Biden-Harris HQ, run by the Biden campaign, shared its first TikTok post on Sunday evening, coinciding with the Super Bowl. The post featured President Biden participating in a football-themed Q&A session.

The Super Bowl is the annual league championship game of the National Football League of the United States, which serves as the final game of every NFL season. It is also the biggest and most important American football game of the year.

The Biden campaign’s decision to join the social media platform comes at a time when the company is facing increased scrutiny due to its ownership being based in China.

TikTok, owned by Chinese firm ByteDance, has faced accusations from numerous US politicians of being a propaganda tool for Beijing. The company vehemently denies these claims.

Congressional leaders from both parties have expressed serious security concerns and are pushing for a ban on TikTok.

In 2022, Biden implemented a policy prohibiting the use of TikTok on devices owned by federal government employees, with a few exceptions for law enforcement, national security, and security research.

As reported by Politico, the Biden campaign’s decision to join TikTok reflects the President’s efforts to connect with young voters, who are an important part of the Democratic Party’s base.

In 2022, TikTok denounced the ban on its app for federal agencies.

“We’re disappointed that Congress has moved to ban TikTok on government devices — a political gesture that will do nothing to advance national security interests — rather than encouraging the Administration to conclude its national security review,” the company said in a statement.

As reported by Reuters, the Biden campaign advisors have emphasised their commitment to reaching out to voters through various social media platforms, such as Instagram and Truth Social.
